The Montana Fish & Wildlife Commission is seeking public comment on proposed commercial fishing regulations on Lake Helena and Canyon Ferry Reservoir near Helena for the harvest of carp.

The proposed regulations for 2014 specify the areas where carp can be harvested and the process for reporting commercial operations to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.

Special regulations would help protect nesting waterfowl on Lake Helena and prevent conflicts with recreational anglers on Canyon Ferry.

The Fish & Wildlife Commission is authorized to approve one commercial fishing operation for each body of water and to set the regulations.

Only one individual has applied for the 2014 commercial fishing permit to harvest carp from Lake Helena and Canyon Ferry Reservoir.

To comment or find a copy of the proposed rule, visit FWP website at fwp.mt.gov. Click “Public Notices.” Comments, due by Jan. 24, can also be emailed to fwpfsh@mt.gov; or mailed to: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Attn: Commercial Fishing Regulations, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701.
