Weed Lake Proposed Action Environmental Assessment/Draft

KALISPELL, MT., July 3, 2018 –– The Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Decision Notice/Finding of No Significant Impact (DN/FONSI) for the Weed Lake Landscape Restoration Project are now available. The project area is located on the Swan Lake Ranger District, Flathead National Forest, southeast of Bigfork, MT and within the Wildland Urban Interface.

Under the Proposed Action: vegetation would be treated on 1,926 acres; there would be prescribed fire on 1,983 acres; 14 miles of road would be maintained; 4.1 miles of temporary road would be constructed and rehabilitated; 4.8 miles of existing road would be stored; 3 culverts would be removed; and 2 dry fords would be used.

The project is now moving into the 30 day objection phase.  Individuals or organizations who submitted specific, written comments in response to the scoping period have standing to object under 36 CFR 218, Subparts A and C.  Issues raised in objections must be based on previously submitted timely, specific, written comments regarding the project unless the issue is based on new information arising after the designated comment opportunities.

The EA and Draft DN/FONSI are available on-line at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/flathead/landmanagement/projects. These documents are also available for review at the Swan lake Ranger District, 200 Ranger Station Road, Bigfork, Montana.
