According to multiple angler reports, Canyon Ferry is in full transition mode — part ice, part open water, and all dependent on the wind. As of last Saturday morning, the lake was still iced over in areas like the Silos, with strong southeast winds pushing water up over the south-end ice. Since then, fishermen have reported that the wind “took it pretty good,” opening things up significantly. Word from the water is that it’s now open from the dam to roughly Confederate Gulch, with much of the north end showing solid open water.

That said, anglers are also noting there’s still a large ice sheet lingering past the Silos boat launch that can be hard to spot from a distance. So while most of the lake appears open, there are still patches hanging on. As always this time of year, conditions can change fast — so check carefully before launching or stepping out.
