Visitors to Carter’s Bridge Fishing Access Site may have noticed a new gate at the entrance, according to FWP. The site, located along a calm stretch of the Yellowstone River near Livingston, sees thousands of visitors each year. Families often stop by to enjoy the water, while anglers and recreational floaters use the area as a convenient put-in or take-out point. To help keep the site safe and enjoyable for everyone, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks recently installed an automated gate at the entrance.
Because Carter’s Bridge FAS does not have designated campgrounds, overnight camping is prohibited. The new gate helps prevent overnight use and addresses concerns about vandalism and other illicit activities that have occurred after hours. Daytime access will remain unchanged, with the site open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Anyone who witnesses vandalism or other crimes against state lands is encouraged to report it at tipmont.mt.gov.
