Move Over, Grown-Ups: 6-Year-Old Emerson Is Landing Monsters at Fort Peck

We don’t think anyone is ever going to top the fishing story Emerson Copenhaver is walking away with…and it is still going!

He tells everybody that he is “6/7” (technically, he is six, but he hits the big seven this October), and he is having some awesome days on Fort Peck Reservoir that grown men spend their whole lives dreaming about!

Yesterday, he was out with his grandpa, Bill Zahradka—however, around Wolf Point, people know him as the “Salmon Slayer”—and the duo started the morning hauling in walleyes until they hit their limit.

But instead of packing it in, they decided to go after the big stuff…

Emerson ended up hooking into an absolute monster of a Chinook salmon. He fought it, landed it, and the thing weighed in at a massive 20 pounds. He actually had a second giant salmon on the line right after, but it slipped off right at the boat. (Every fishing story needs the one that got away, right?)

To top off an already incredible day, Emerson wrapped things up by landing two separate 30-inch walleyes. He got a quick photo and let them go so they could keep growing, but holy cow!!

From a full cooler of walleyes to a trophy salmon and two absolute river monsters, it was basically the perfect day.

But, wait! There’s more! The two are back at it today, and Emerson caught an even bigger whopper, weighing in at 22 pounds!

You can bet Grandpa Bill is going to be bragging about his grandson’s fishing magic for a long, long time. Huge congratulations to both of them—this is pure core-memory material right there!
