Yellowstone National Park is famous for bison and bear traffic jams, but drivers on Highway 191 recently faced a much louder roadblock: a massive, swirling cloud of millions of bees. As seen in a viral Facebook video, a chaotic “bee-nado” completely took over the Montana sky.
While it looked like a horror movie scene, there was a real explanation. A semi-truck transporting commercial beehives flipped over near the park, shattering the crates. According to East Idaho News, the crash unleashed thousands of displaced insects.
Because commercial shipments are massive, Cowboy State Daily estimated that millions of bees were onboard the trailer. No humans were injured, but the accident left local authorities and the Montana Department of Agriculture with an unprecedented cleanup.
Days after the wreck, tourists were treated to a slow-moving roadside safari as the homeless bees swarmed local trees. Cowboy State Daily reported that local beekeepers rushed to the scene to safely rescue the surviving colonies before they disappeared into the park.
It’s just another reminder that when you visit Yellowstone, you should always expect the unexpected—and keep your windows rolled up!
