Fairy Lake Road #74 on the Bozeman Ranger District, Custer Gallatin National Forest will not open as planned on June 16th due to ongoing snow conditions.

Growing up in Missoula, University of Montana alumna Esther Lyon Delsordo spent time casually floating the Blackfoot and Bitterroot rivers, generally in inflatable kayaks, but had never taken a hard-shell kayak down any fast-moving water with rapids. After watching her friends in college kayak and surf through whitewater, she decided she wanted to expand her skills to join them.

The Bitterroot National Forest will temporarily open several roads this summer for the public to access personal use firewood. To learn more about each area and view maps of the locations, visit our website, call, or stop by any Forest Service office.

Yesterday, Western Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum urging immediate action to address the projected low water levels of Flathead Lake this summer. The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), which operate the SKQ Dam, are currently projecting lake levels as much as three feet below full pool this summer.
