Wild Rooster Farm‘s Bear, an AKC purebred Anatolian Shepherd, is about to trade the mountains of Kalispell, Montana, for the open plains of South Africa. According to their post in a social media group, soon, he’ll begin the first leg of his journey to join the Cheetah Outreach Trust, where he will become the newest breeding stud in their Livestock Guardian Dog program.

The program’s mission is both practical and compassionate—placing Anatolians with farmers so livestock stays safe and cheetahs stay alive. With a loyal, full-grown 125–150-pound dog like Bear on duty, farmers have no need to shoot the big cats that might otherwise prey on their animals, and Wild Rooster Farm is proud to be a part of this conservation effort.

While Bear still has some growing to do, his role is already clear: protect livestock, save cheetahs, and prove that sometimes the best way to help a wild cat… is with a big dog.
