Heads up, lion hunters — there’s a change you’ll want on your radar. The Montana Fish & Wildlife Commission has announced that both LMU 320 and LMU 121 will close to the harvest of female mountain lions one-half hour after sunset on Saturday, February 21, 2026. That means once the sun dips below the horizon that evening, it’s a wrap for harvesting females in those units. These closures are part of Montana’s quota system, designed to keep lion populations healthy and hunting opportunities sustainable for the long haul.

Just a reminder — this applies specifically to female lions in those LMUs. Quotas can fill fast, so it’s always smart to double-check the current status before you lace up your boots and turn the dogs loose. For the latest quota updates and regulations, visit Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ official hunting guide page: https://myfwp.mt.gov/fwpPub/speciesHuntingGuide?wmrSpeciesCd=ML. Staying informed keeps you legal — and helps protect the future of lion hunting in Montana.
