Montana has its fair share of overachievers—grizzlies, trout, and that one neighbor who somehow has their firewood stacked by September—but this season, Erika Lincoln may have topped them all with a harvest that started with a mature muley, rolled into a clean antelope, and ended with a 580-yard bull elk shot. One pull, one bull down, tags filled, freezer destined to be full—and of course, the “real work” just beginning, as every Montana hunter knows all too well. But that is life in the Last Best Place: the mountains are generous (sometimes), the stories are bigger than the skyline, and every now and then a season wraps up perfectly.

Congratulations, Erika!
