Effective Strategies for Trout Fishing the Mo in Hot Weather

Effective Strategies for Trout Fishing the Mo in Hot Weather

The Mo is running at 3,550 cfs, but it’s a total scorcher out there, according to the July 27, 2026 report by House of Fly. With water temperatures climbing past 66°F, the trout are feeling the heat. The game plan is simple: fish early before the sun bakes the canyon, and keep the fish in the water to give them a fighting chance.

What’s Biting & How to Catch ‘Em

  • Morning Shift: It’s all about the Trico game. Fish duns early, switch to spinners later, and drift Micro Mays or Zebra Midges deep.
  • Afternoon Shift: When the hatches slow down, turn to the banks with terrestrial bugs like ants, beetles, and small hoppers.
  • The Rigs: You can’t go wrong with a Hopper-Dropper setup, a double Zirdle rig, or stripping heavy meat like a Bam-Bam Minnow or Kreelex.
