Canyon Ferry: Walleye fishing has been a bit inconsistent with the afternoon rainstorms. On the south end anglers are finding walleye halfway between the Silos and Pond 1 along the old river channel. Round Top, Beaver Creek Bay, Snaggy Bay and Gull Island have been producing mid-reservoir in 20 to 30 feet of water. The north end action is in Hellgate Bay, Avalanche, Court Sheriff and off of points in the main reservoir. Bottom bouncers with slow-death rigs or worm harnesses in perch, white, orange or chartreuse spinner blade colors. Various colored jigs and crankbaits have been working as well, especially on the north end. An occasional perch is being caught by anglers using walleye rigs in these same areas. Some anglers are finding rainbows while fishing with walleye gear, lures or cowbells in the traditional walleye spots as well as the north end of the reservoir between Avalanche and Cemetary Island while trolling cowbells or deep diving rapalas in blue/silver colors. A few rainbows are being caught around the docks at Hellgate on worms or rapalas. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Hauser: Rainbow fishing has been good below Canyon Ferry Dam while using pheasant tail, hairs ear, or prince nymphs. Trolling dodgers or cowbells with spinner rigs is producing a few rainbows in the early morning between Spokane Creek and Trout Creek and from the Causeway Arm to the Dam. Anglers fishing from shore at the Causeway Bridge are also picking up some nice rainbows and a few walleye on slip bobbers with jigs and leeches or crawlers. A few walleye anglers are doing well while fishing from the bridge during the night and jigging around the Eldorado dredge piles has also been producing a few walleye. An occasional perch is being caught while jigging around weed beds. Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
Holter: Good numbers of rainbows are being caught while trolling dark-colored crankbaits or cowbells and wedding rings around 20 feet deep between Log Gulch and Split Rock. Kokanee fishing has been good in the early morning just above the Dam. Most kokanee anglers are trolling dodgers or cowbells with hoochies or wedding rings tipped with maggots or corn between 40 and 70 feet deep. Walleye action has been good while jigging with leeches in the Canyon near the Gates of the Mountains, and near the Oxbow Bend around weed beds in 10-20 feet of water. A few perch are being caught around the weed beds with smaller jigs. Anglers fly fishing on the upper end of the reservoir are catching some nice trout with various nymphs or streamers.
