LIVINGSTON – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is proposing to remove illegally introduced bass from Sacajawea Lagoon in Livingston and will hold a public meeting on Thursday, Oct. 1 to discuss the project. The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Community Room of the City/County Complex building at 414 E. Callender Street in Livingston.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about the proposed project and ask questions of FWP staff. FWP will also provide information on long-term management plans for the Sacajawea Lagoon fishery.
Following public reports of smallmouth bass in the lagoon this May, FWP fisheries staff discovered both smallmouth and largemouth bass had been illegally introduced in the pond, which is stocked annually with Yellowstone cutthroat trout to support a recreational fishing opportunity in town. Fish escapement from the lagoon to the Yellowstone River is possible through a culvert. Both species of bass are predatory fish that could pose a risk to the popular wild trout fishery of the upper Yellowstone River.
