Around 4:00 pm, Valley County Search and Rescue got the call — several people were stranded on Fort Peck Lake and couldn’t make it back to shore.
They rolled out with eight team members, launching the airboat with a three-person crew while five stayed staged on land. Local good Samaritans jumped in with side-by-sides to help bring others safely off a floating sheet of ice that had drifted to shore. Thanks to teamwork all around, everyone made it back safely — and that’s the kind of ending everybody likes.
As we head into these unpredictable late-winter conditions, here is your friendly reminder: ice and weather can change fast. Play it safe out there and don’t push your luck.
