According to a recent post on social media by Patti Fleming, ice conditions for Margo’s March Madness Derby are shaping up, but they’re not identical across the lake. The north end at the county ramp has about 8 inches of ice with 3 inches of snow on top. Lions Camp is sitting at 6 inches, and the south end near the dam is coming in around 4.5 to 5 inches. That means conditions vary — so don’t assume it’s the same everywhere.

There are wet and slushy spots to watch for, though they’re firming up overnight with colder temps. Be especially cautious around pressure ridges and any heaved ice. And remember — check-in is mandatory before fishing your first day.
