He Went Looking for Deer. Found a Family Feud With Live Ammunition

A Coweta County, Georgia bow hunter was sitting up in his deer stand, worrying about the usual things like wind, scent and whether the deer would show…when two cars pulled into his driveway, and two people walked up and started pounding on his door.

Then came six or seven shots in his direction, at which point he did the only sensible thing available in a tree: got low and stayed there. He told deputies he believed the shooter was his stepdaughter’s girlfriend, a relationship he’d made no secret of not approving of.

Earlier that same day, per the report, she’d messaged him accusing him of being a child molester and called repeatedly — allegations from one party, not findings — and when he didn’t answer, she followed up with a note that he was “scared to answer the phone” and that “his day is coming.”

He also mentioned that someone had previously come onto his property and punctured a tire, which can make a bad week worse. Deputies detained the girlfriend and one other person; whether charges were formally filed remains, at last check, an open question. The deer, for the record, are fine.

The lesson here isn’t about ballistics, it’s about escalation. Accusations and threats via text, followed by a punctured tire, followed by a driveway full of cars and gunshots, is not a personality conflict you resolve by not picking up the phone; it’s a paper trail you hand to a deputy before the pattern finishes writing itself. The deer, for the record, are fine.
